Your Newborn Photo Session Guide

Newborn, Newborn and babies

Firstly, hello and welcome to this blog post for all you need to know about a newborn photo session and baby photography at my ‘Cosy Cabin’ studio in Dudley.

My lovely home studio in Dudley, West Midlands, is warm and inviting for these special little guests.  Newborn photo sessions are my passion and specialism, so I have everything centred around making this the most pleasant experience for you and your baby.  I even have dinky little outfits and props that are specially made for my little guests.  Even though the baby comes first, you too are just as important.  I have a nice comfy settee, so put your feet up, have a cuppa and a snack, and take time to relax whilst I take care of making some wonderful memories for you to treasure.

Whether you have already given birth, or planning ahead for when they arrive, you have come to the right place if you would like to know more about my newborn photo sessions.

When to book your newborn session

As soon as you know your due date you can book in your babies photo session. It’s one less thing to have to think about.  Weekends are always popular so if your prefer a Saturday or Sunday then I advise to do this sooner rather than later.  Yes, I work weekends too.

I schedule a date for around 2 weeks after your due date.  This is just a pencilled in date until baby arrives and we can schedule a firm date.  Due to the nature of newborn sessions I only book in a limited number each month so I have the flexibility to move dates around to suit their birth dates.

The ideal time frame for a newborn photo shoot is when your baby is between 5 – 21 days old.  However, there is no hard and fast rule, so please don’t think you have missed out on creating some lovely photos of your new bundle of joy if they are older than 21 days, I can still get some wonderful images, we may even catch them wide awake.

We aim for 5-21 days so that we have more opportunity of recreating some of those iconic sleepy baby poses.  Babies have been tightly curled up in the womb for 9 months and many of the baby poses replicate some of the positions.  I just love the ‘Egg pose’.  Baby is swaddled but with their tiny feet and hands showing.  Just like in these pictures:

About your session

Your session will last around 3 hours.  Sometimes it can be less and sometimes I go over.  I work with how your baby is on the day and some need longer to settle than others, or may need an extra feed.  Whatever, rest assured that your session is never rushed.  If your baby is taking longer to settle then, as long as they are content, I can take some lovely shots while they are awake.

I will take a series of photographs, both natural sleepy poses and some using my special props.  You can also have some family and sibling photos included in your session at no extra cost.  There will be plenty of time for these.  Also, parents love my silhouette images.

I have a good choice of little outfits, headbands, hats and bonnets to use during their session.  If you have a preference on colour then I’m sure to have outfits to suit.

After the session I will create your gallery and you can then decide which collection you would like. I offer 3 packages with set prices and no hidden extras, to suit all budgets.

You photos will also make wonderful gifts for family members.  Just ask about my sample wall products, albums and prints.  There really is a good selection of options to display your wonderful images.
