Sitter Photo Sessions – what are they?

Milestone Sessions

baby_sitting_on_floor

As your baby develops over the year there are key baby ‘firsts’.  Their first smile, first time they roll over, sitting unaided, starting to crawl, learning to walk, having their first taste of food. In photography we like to capture some of these little milestones with a special sitter photo sessions.  The main ones being a sitter session or first birthday.

Sitter photo sessions are for when your baby can sit on their own, unaided.  This is usually around 6 – 9 months old. At this stage we can get some lovely smiles and interaction with your baby.  I have some little props and toys ideal for these sessions.  They love to explore and pick up things to hold.  All this helps to interact and capture some lovely candid moments for you. Their expressions at this age are priceless!

Milestone sessions are usually around specific dates or birthdays.  For example ‘Watch me Grow’.  Some parents document their baby’s growth throughout their first year – 1 week old, 1 month old, 3 months, 6 months etc. In photography it’s usually the Sitter and First Birthday that parents love to capture with a professional photo shoot.

Birthday sessions are always wonderful to capture for you.  Whether it’s full blown Cake Smash session or just a simple baby portrait, either way I can help to create these wonderful memories.  Why not book in for a ‘Bubble and Splash’ session, if you don’t want the cake part.  I can still create a lovely gallery to celebrate their first birthday.

Tips for the day

  • Plan ahead.
  • Let’s get the outfit{s) sorted.  I don’t mind if you want to bring along an extra outfit or two, as long as there is time in the session for changes. We can do a background change too.
  • Keep clothing simple.  Plain colours tend to work best on photos as fussy patterns can be a little distracting.
  • Needing a nap.  I would advise to work around your child’s nap time.  If your baby is tired then we aren’t going to get the best out of the session.  Book a time when your baby will be fresh and not hungry.
  • Bring along their favourite toy or family heirloom.  This can help to comfort your little one as well as helping them to interact with us.  Their favourite cuddly toy is a great idea.
  • Bring along a drink or a snack.  After all modelling can be thirsty work!
  • Don’t stress.  Seriously, our child will pick up on your feelings.  We make the session as relaxed as possible and chat and play with your little one first for them to get used to us.  Some babies take a little coaxing at first, but there’s no rush.  I’d rather spend 15-20 minutes of the session letting your baby get accustomed to the surroundings.  There’s still plenty of time to snap away and creat that gorgeous gallery.

After your sitter photo session

After your session has ended we can arrange for you to come in for your viewing.  This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about our galley and to choose your favourites.  It’s always useful for me to know what you plan to do with the images as I can resize any that’s needed.  There are different crops to suit printed photos and canvases etc.  Although, there are a multitude of products available to display your images and I am happy to advise you. You can also take a look at my lovely samples.

If you are short on time or have had to travel a distance then we can always do an online viewing for you.  Either way it’s your choice on what you want to do with your images and I am happy to advise and supply quotes for wall art.
