When Can I Take My Baby Swimming?
You may be surprised to know that there is no minimum age that a baby can start to go into a swimming pool. However, most classes don’t start until they are 3 months old or older. Maybe it’s worth waiting until they have had their first set of injections? In the mean time they can get used to water during bath time. There’s nothling like watching your tiny baby having a good kick around in the water. The feel and sound of the water must be so captivating for them.
Is It Good For Babies To Go Swimming?
If your baby enjoys splashing around in the bath then they may be ready to go into a public swimming pool. Professional and supervised baby and parent lessons are always advisable. There are lots of positives to taking your baby into a swimming pool at an early age:
- Muscle strength – just as for adults, splashing aroung in the water is good exercise for babies. It also improves the heart, lungs and brain.
- Better sleep – of couirse after all that exercise they are going to be tired and it could improve their sleep pattern.
- Building confidence – baby swimming lessons will help to build their confidence in the water.
- Bonding – with no other distractions around your baby will have your 100% attention. All that splashing around and play will bring plenty of unforgettable moments together.

This is just a short list of places that do baby swim lessons in the Dudley area. As with anything else, this list is current for the Summer of 2025. It is always worth you checking that they are still taking place. Most will require booking in advance anyway.
DB LEISURE
Under 5s Splash Time
- Come along and get your little ones water confident! This is a non-instructor led session that takes place in the learner pool. A variety of toys, including watering cans and boats will be available for your child to enjoy.Day and time of session:
- Wednesday: 9am – 10am (term-time only) Pre-booking not required, normal admission prices apply. A 50% discount is available for Options+ leisure card discount holders. This session is suitable for children under five years of age and parents / carers only.
PUDDLE DUCKS
Puddle Ducks run a good number of classes in and around the Dudley area. At Woollescote Primary School in Stourbidge they have various lessons on Mondays and Thursdays. Below is a link to their website with a full list of all their classes:

Classes for age 3 and above can be found at Ellowes Hall Sports College, Stickley Lane, Dudley. Classes there run every day of the week.
WATER BABIES
The closest classes to Dudley are at Pedmore, Grange Lane, Stourbridge and classes run on Saturdays and Sundays.
