Cake smash photo sessions offer a wonderful way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. This milestone is truly one-of-a-kind, marking the completion of their first year of life. What better way to honor this special occasion than with a fun and memorable cake smash? While it may get a bit messy, that’s precisely what makes it so enjoyable! And don’t worry about the clean-up—I’ll take care of everything, so you can simply relax and enjoy the moment.
My studio in Dudley provides the perfect setting—warm, cosy, and inviting. Before the cake comes out, we’ll start with some portrait photos to capture those precious moments. Afterward, the cake is introduced, and we snap a few more pictures before your little one gets the chance to dive in. Once the cake smash portion is complete, we move on to the final fun activity—‘Splash time.’ This is when I place your baby in a shallow tub for a playful splash-about, and if you’d like, we can capture even more adorable photos of the fun.
To make your photoshoot extra special, I supply a variety of props, accessories, and decorations, all designed to create a festive, birthday-themed atmosphere. These elements help enhance the celebration and ensure your baby feels celebrated and cherished.

Andrea photographed my son when he was 2 weeks old. He wasn’t your typical sleepy newborn so took him a fair amount of time to actually fall asleep even after feeding. She was incredibly patient with him and very accommodating to us all as I ended up needing to take 2 of my older children with me (one of whom was a very boisterous 2 year old). Thank you Andrea, the photos were beautiful.
YOUR QUESTIONS
Do you supply the cake?
No. To ensure that your child’s dietary requirements are met I ask that you bring a suitable cake yourself. I can provide a cake if desired for an additional fee – please contact me to discuss your requirements.
Does the cake smash photoshoot have to take place on their birthday?
No, we know you may be too busy with a party on the day itself! In fact a lot of parents have it done 1-2 months before the birthday to use on the birthday party invitations.
How much cake does my baby eat during the session?
Surprisingly little – most of it remains on the floor as they’re having too much fun playing with it!
What outfits should I bring for the cake smash session?
First and foremost, an outfit you don’t mind getting messy! You’ll also need to bring clothes for your baby to change into after their splash in the tub. If desired, you can also bring a different outfit for the portrait session at the start.
